Microsoft 365 Security for IT Professionals

Author: Michael Van Horenbeeck  Category:  Get it!
 Description:

This book, which focuses on all things security from the Microsoft 365 stack of solutions and services, aims to deliver practical content laced with real-world examples.

This book will follow the same model as the highly-popular “Office 365 for IT Pros“-book. Some of you might already be familiar with the format. Our goal is to issue monthly updates of the book! This website will be the vehicle through which we will announce the updates and keep track of what’s changed month after month. Once a year, we will release a completely new version. To be able to do this, we will only offer the book in e-format; no printed copies are available.

Why did I/we write this book?

After having contributed to the first four editions of the Office 365 for IT Pros-book, I decided to take a break. The combination of writing for the book and other engagements, both personally and professionally, did not allow me to maintain the level of quality that I stand for.

Notwithstanding I still have a busy life, I missed writing. With a shift in my professional focus, I decided that Microsoft’s Security solutions and services could definitely benefit from a book like Office 365 for IT Pros. Even more so: I am enamored by the book format and the ability to continuously provide new and relevant information to its readers.

I realize this is a monumental task, that is also why I’m not undertaking this effort alone!

About the authors

Luckily, I can count on a team of writers (and reviewers) to keep the content fresh and relevant to you. Today, the author team consists of:

  • Michael Van Horenbeeck (MVP)
  • Peter Daalmans (MVP)
  • Ammar Hasayen (MVP)
  • Ahmed Nabil (MVP)
  • Thomas Verwer

The gigantic task of reviewing the chapters and keeping us honest is set aside for Thijs Lecomte! For more information about the authors and what drives them, click here.

If you are interested in becoming part of the author team, feel free to send us a message. We’re always on the lookout for new and existing talent! If a spot becomes available, we’ll make sure to get in touch with you.

How can I purchase the book?

The book is sold through Gumroad; a platform which allows us to easily distribute and update the book. We’ll be posting the link to the book here, as soon as it’s available.

After careful consideration, we have decided not to publish through Amazon. Unfortunately, they lack the mechanism to provide regular updates without generating a lot of additional effort to maintain and publish the book.

What to expect from this book?

As mentioned earlier, we aim to deliver practical content which comes from extensive real-world experience. We mix deep-dives with an overview of the different capabilities so that you have a solid foundation and understanding of the platform’s capabilities.

Acknowledgements

This book is a collaborative effort of many people. We are lucky to be able to call upon the expertise of many others, including many people at Microsoft who have been willing to patiently answer any and all question(s) we have thrown at them.

We’re especially grateful that Nicholas DiCola will be writing a foreword, which we hope to incorporate in one of the upcoming updates!

Feedback

Your feedback is crucial to us. Have you spotted an error (both technically, or grammatically)? Well, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at feedback[at]m365securitybook.com. We’ll make sure your feedback is heard and that it will be included in future updates.

What’s next?

The book is never finished. If we were to cover all security features of Microsoft 365 before releasing the book, we would never get to publish it in the first place!

As we update the book, we will also be adding new content. In the coming releases (over the next few months), you can expect more information to be included in the existing chapters, and you can expect new chapters. The author team is already working hard to deliver to you a world-class Azure Sentinel-chapter along a brand new chapter on Office Advanced Threat Protection.

If there is anything you believe is missing from the book, or would like to see covered (in more depth), feel free to send us a message at feedback[at]m365securitybook.com. We’ll be happy to take it into consideration!

How does this book relate to Office 365 for IT Pros?

Both books exist on their own. However, I don’t like to reinvent the wheel. The book format Tony conceived and the method of publishing will be the same; albeit delivered through a different channel and as a separate product. For some things, which are also covered in Office 365 for IT Pros, we gladly refer to it. This being said: it’s by no means a must to purchase both books, but they go well together 🙂

Tony has also been so kind to “lend” some content of the Office 365 for IT Pros book to us. For example, you will see that parts of the Information Protection chapter contains information which stems directly from Office 365 for IT Pros. We’ve made this decision because the information was a) already there and b) is top-notch. We’ve consciously decided to focus on adding value on top of the content that was already there, rather than duplicating efforts.

Inevitably, some overlap exists between both books. But that’s never a bad thing: you’ll get different opinions from different authors which can only enhance one’s comprehension of a topic!
