<\/p>\nThe online version of Exchange (Office 365) does not have the same EDB to PST conversion features that its on-premise version has. However, there are still a few ways that Office 365 mailbox items can be exported to PST.<\/p>\n
I ran into the odd situation today where a customer wanted to export away from Office 365 to PST. Using Office 365\u2019s Search & investigation option it was actually really easy.<\/p>\n
First log into your Office 365 tenant with an Global Admin account which has permissions to the \u2018Security & Compliance\u2019 center
\n<\/p>\n

In your Security & Compliance center, go to Permissions and edit eDiscovery Manager role group.
\nThis and the next step are necessary because you need to be a member of the eDiscovery Manager role group to be able to use eDiscovery features.

Now go to Exchange online and go to the Exchange admin center.

Now continue with browsing to \u2018eDiscovery Management<\/strong>\u2018 and select \u2018Edit<\/strong>\u2018 \u00a0<\/p>\n Under Roles make sure the ones below are there and add if not. Then add the members who you want to have access to do the export (your account). \u00a0<\/p>\n Then to do the export go to Content search and hit the plus sign. \u00a0<\/p>\n If you just want to export one mailbox to PST give it a name and select choose specific mailboxes to search and add the user. You can leave the rest at the defaults for a basic export. \u00a0<\/p>\n You can leave the next fields blank and click search. His Filed is to check the Query, but normaly it works very well without it. \u00a0<\/p>\n In the next your export search will be created, here you can find more detail informations about the export. From here you can start the export or generate a Report: \u00a0<\/p>\n Going to the next Stepp you have (analog to the Mailbox Migration way) the opportunity, to set some few more options: \u00a0<\/p>\n After hitting \u2018Start export\u2019 the preparation for the download is running and after that the Donload starts. \u00a0<\/p>\n When the download is done successfully, click Download exported results again and click Copy to clipboard Change key and click Download results. \u00a0<\/p>\n Now it will Popup a Microsoft Plugin in your Webbrowser, you need to install it, paste the Export Key which you have copied earlier and set the Parh, where you wanna have exported your PST File. \u00a0<\/p>\n After hitting \u2018start\u2019, the download of your PST File will start: \u00a0<\/p>\n Article Summary<\/p>\n The Exchange Online eDiscovery to PST tool enables you to export mailbox items to PST, but the process isn\u2019t as quick and simple as it perhaps could be.
